We
The National Folklore Directorate forms part of the operational level of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Panama and its establishment corresponds to its mandate. Article 87 of The Constitution of the Republic of Panama, currently in force, for this reason fundamental pillars are the conservation and dissemination of Panamanian folklore, which forms an integral part of national culture.
It was officially born on 10 May 2021, when published in Official Gazette 29281, Resolution No 070-21 MC / DAC of 30 April 2021 by which "The Organization and Manual of Organization and Duties of the Ministry of Culture are approved and adopted."
Objectives
Proponer and develop public policies of culture, through projects for the safeguard of cultural heritage inserted into the Expressions of the Panamanian Folklore, as well as estimate actions with international agencies related to the topic (UNESCO, WIPO, CIOFF, SICA, CECC, among others), through the different agencies of the Ministry of Culture of Panama.
Mission
To preserve, promote and strengthen Panamanian folklore as a living expression of our national identity through programs, research, educational and cultural activities that safeguard the traditions, customs, popular knowledge and artistic manifestations of the Panamanian people, in co-ordination with communities, creators and bearers of traditional culture.
Vision
To be the leading institution for the management and projection of Panamanian folklore at national and international level, recognised for its commitment to safeguard the intangible cultural heritage, the inclusion of the cultural diversity of the country and the transmission of our traditions to new generations as a basis for national identity and pride.
